A Simple Sink Swap That Turned Into a Real Craft Job

Sometimes the smallest kitchen updates end up being the most interesting ones to work through. A sink swap sounds simple on paper - pull the old one out, drop the new one in. But kitchens don't always cooperate, and this one had a few surprises waiting for us once we got into it.

The new sink needed a cutout that didn't quite match what was already there. That meant careful granite grinding to get the fit right. Grinding granite in a lived-in kitchen isn't something you just wing - it kicks up a fine dust that gets into everything. So we built out a proper dust containment booth with plastic sheeting taped floor to ceiling to keep the rest of the kitchen clean. That's not an extra step we skip to save time. It's just how the job gets done right.

We also had to replace the cabinet bottom underneath the sink. The new basin had different dimensions, and getting everything to sit flush and function properly meant building it back up clean. No shortcuts. The goal is always that the finished result looks like it was always meant to be there.

That's really the whole point with kitchen remodeling work. It's not just about swapping one thing for another. It's about solving whatever comes up along the way and leaving the space better than you found it. A good outcome here means a sink that fits perfectly, a countertop edge that's clean and sealed, and cabinetry underneath that's solid and fresh.
